Alstom has been awarded contracts worth approximately €335 million[1] ($450M) to supply a power island (KA24) for Iberdrola’s Monterrey III combined-cycle power plant in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon. The contracts also include a Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA) for new unit 5 and for the existing 4 units. The commissioning is scheduled in 2016.
The new unit, consisting of one GT24 gas turbine - the 11th in Mexico overall - a steam turbine and Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), will use Alstom’s upgraded gas turbine technology. It offers optimum reliability, operational flexibility, availability and performance to balance load production in the region which has high power demands from industrial users. The new unit will have an installed capacity of approximately 338 MW and will help Iberdrola keep up with growing energy needs in the region.
“Alstom’s gas turbines have been in operation for more than 10 years on units 1,2,3,4 of the Monterrey III power station and we are proud to continue our long, successful partnership with Iberdrola to expand their generation needs,” said Philippe Cochet, President of Alstom Thermal Power. “This experience enables us to provide superior generation and maintenance solutions that ensure reliability and efficiency for Mexico’s industrial consumers for years to come”.
During the five decades Alstom has installed more than 11,000 MW worth of electricity-generating equipment in Mexico, nearly 20 % of the total capacity, 3,000MW of which correspond to combined-cycle plants.
