Coradia Stream for DSB
In June 2021, Alstom has won the largest train tender in Danish rail history. Part of a landmark framework agreement with Danish State Railways (DSB) for 100 Coradia Stream regional trains as well as a 15-year full-service maintenance agreement.
The delivery of DSB’s “Fremtidens Tog – Nye Tog” (Trains of the Future – New Trains) is scheduled to begin in the last quarter of 2024. Once in service, this new fleet will operate as a regional and fast rail service and connect Denmark’s Frederikshavn region in the north to Rødby in the southeast after passing through the capital city of Copenhagen.
ERTMS: Denmark’s biggest railway project in history
The nearly 100-year-old signalling system on the Danish railways is being replaced with a new IT-based signalling system European Rail Traffic Management System – also called ERTMS. The new system will through the coming years be implemented all over Europe and will amongst other things increase the security level on the rails and in the end lead to more trains on time.
Denmark is the first country in Europe to roll out the system in the whole country. Banedanmark leads the project, and Alstom installs the signalling equipment on the entire train fleet and installs equipment along the rails East from Lillebælt. The new signalling system will be completed in 2030.
Trackside and onboard
The replacement of the new signalling system takes place in three steps during the project: Installation of the new components along the tracks (trackside) and installation of equipment on the trainsets (onboard). When both tracks and train are complete, the signalling system is joined by the traffic management part, which allows the whole system to communicate.
The 362 train sets to be installed with the new signalling system span 16 different types of trains and several subtypes. In the train a computer is installed together with sensors and cables that will communicate with the components along the tracks.
