Alstom Foundation, Fundación Juan XXIII and Alstom Spain launch the second edition of 'Inclusive Trains', a project to improve the employability of people with intellectual disabilities

  • Second edition of the course 'Passenger Assistance and Care' which, through training and practice in real environments in the railway sector, seeks to promote the employability of people in a situation or at risk of psychosocial vulnerability.

Alstom Foundation, Fundación Juan XXIII, and Alstom in Spain are joining forces once again to promote the employability of people in a situation or at risk of psychosocial vulnerability.  With this objective in mind, the second edition of the project 'Inclusive Trains' was inaugurated today at Fundación Juan XXIII facilities, seeking to promote the employability of people with intellectual disabilities through training and internships in real environments. The last edition culminated in the hiring of several students by the high-speed operator OUIGO.

With the funding and support of the Alstom Foundation, this initiative was born out of the need to improve the employment situation of this group. Although access to the labour market for people with disabilities has improved compared to other years, there is still a considerable distance to cover, with young people with disabilities having the most difficulties when looking for a job.

With this objective, the three entities have once again joined forces, demonstrating their commitment to the development of a more inclusive society and the promotion of equal opportunities for all groups. The 12 students joining this year-long course will receive theoretical and practical knowledge about railway sector, maintenance, on board services, passenger assistance, thus acquiring the necessary skills to become a cabin crew member in the railway sector. This year, in addition, some new features have been incorporated, such as a broader view and more English learning hours, with the aim of increasing the students' opportunities.

FUNDACIÓN JUAN XXIII, an entity that has been working for more than 55 years for the social and labour inclusion of people in a situation of psychosocial vulnerability, will once again be responsible for developing this training project through its Training Centre for Employment, a pioneer resource for providing training solutions adapted to people with intellectual disabilities and/or mental illness, which has a average job placement rate of 41%.

A project born from the employees of Alstom

The development of this project has been made possible thanks to the support and funding of the Alstom Foundation which, each year, invites all the company's employees around the world to submit proposals for charitable projects where the organisation can actively participate through financial contributions and logistical support. Among the 268 proposals received last year, one of those selected was the one submitted by an engineer from Alstom's signalling centre in Madrid who, through this project, wants to offer new job opportunities to this group.
