  • Alstom has over 650 employees and three sites across Pennsylvania to date

30 September 2024 – Today, Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, announced it is opening a new project office in the heart of Philadelphia’s Center City. Alstom has a long history in Pennsylvania and is currently manufacturing the traction system for SEPTA’s next generation of light rail cars in West Mifflin.

This office will support collaboration with customers in Philadelphia and throughout the Northeast Corridor and help to streamline design and project decisions.

We’re pleased to announce that Alstom is putting a team on the ground to support our Philadelphia projects and look forward to continuing our great partnership with SEPTA as they modernize their system.”

Noah Heulitt
Operational Performance Vice President Americas

Alstom has signed a short-term lease for this space while the company continues its search for a permanent home in Philadelphia. The new office is part of Alstom’s vision to be able to support its expanding work in the United States as the company delivers for customers like SEPTA in the Northeast, and across the nation to build the future of transit and passenger rail.

As part of SEPTA’s ongoing efforts to improve the system and upgrade rolling stock, Alstom is delivering sleek, state-of-the-art, light rail trains that utilize a low floor design to maximize capacity and accessibility while increasing speed.

“We’re pleased to announce that Alstom is putting a team on the ground to support our Philadelphia projects and look forward to continuing our great partnership with SEPTA as they modernize their system,” said Noah Heulitt, Operational Performance Vice President Americas. “Pennsylvania has a robust transportation economy and we’re eager to build and deliver the next generation of efficient, sustainable, forward-looking transportation solutions in the Keystone State.”

Alstom's project office will house 15 employees initially. Alstom plans to continue to add staff to the Philadelphia area to support over 4,500 U.S employees nationwide. These Philadelphia-based employees will join the more than 650 Alstom staff members already working in Pennsylvania, developing urban rail signaling solutions, building traction and automated people movers, and managing domestic and international rail infrastructure projects across its three facilities in Pittsburgh and West Mifflin.

Alstom has an established footprint in Pennsylvania. The company supports a large supplier base in Pennsylvania of over 200 businesses and spends around $1 million annually across the state.
