The new EMUs are built on bogie frames produced in Alstom’s Mátranovák bogie frame factory
20 November 2024 – Alstom, global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, and the Romanian Railway Reform Authority (ARF) presented the first Coradia Stream inter-regional electric train delivered in the country, for commercial service. This is the first train among the fleet of 37 Alstom electric trains ordered by ARF. The new EMUs running on bogie frames produced in Hungary, Mátranovák – one of Alstom’s special bogie frame producing factory.
The bogie frames are one of the most critical parts of the trainsets in terms of railway safety point of view. As the axles, springs and brakes are mounted on these frames their quality is decisive. In the production of bogie frames in Mátranovák more complicated, higher-level, special combined welding techniques are used by the specially trained experts. Today, the products produced in Mátranovák can be found throughout Europe in many types of trains: in addition to traditional and high-speed trains, suburban trains, locomotives and double-decker railcars.

To facilitate smoother passenger movement, there are two entry doors on each side of the middle cars and one door on each side of the end cars. The train also includes four eco-friendly toilets evenly distributed throughout its length, with one specifically tailored for passengers with reduced mobility. For passenger comfort, the trains feature generously sized luggage racks. The passenger information system integrates a sound system and a dynamic display system. Notably, the Coradia Stream trains are equipped with a digital passenger counting system that utilize high-precision sensors to provide operators with precise data on passenger traffic for effective planning and optimization.
The contract between ARF and Alstom also includes maintenance services for the next 15 years for the 37 trains, with the option to extend with 15 more years.
Alstom developed the Coradia Stream train specifically for the European market. These units come equipped with the ERTMS Level 2 traffic control system and adhere to European standards (EN) and Technical Interoperability Specifications (TSIs). They are designed to operate seamlessly across all major European power supply systems. Currently there are over 700 single-deck Coradia Stream trains (EMU and Hydrogen) already sold in several countries in Europe including Denmark, Netherlands, Germany and Italy.
