Alstom’s Chinese joint venture achieves a 5 year maintenance contract for the Shanghai Pujiang Line

Pujiang Line is the first APM rail transit line in Shanghai, and it is also the first automatic rubber-tired rapid transit system in China to interconnect with the subway. The total length of the line is 6.6 kilometers, and is fully elevated with a total of 6 stations. The train is composed of 4 cars, with a total length of 51 metres, and the train can carry a maximum of 560 passengers. The vehicle contains a lightweight car body, regenerative braking and an intelligent power management system, which can minimise energy consumption. It is also equipped with high-reliability explosion-proof steel-rim tires in terms of safety and has integrated green, intelligent, safe and efficient features.

As an extension of the Shanghai Metro Line 8, Pujiang Line has been of great significance to the regional development of Pujiang Town since it was put into operation in March 2018. After five years of operational practice, the Pujiang Line has leveraged the advantages of rail transit in terms of convenience, speed, safety, and punctuality, working as a paradigm of APM lines. In recent years, in order to ensure the smooth opening and safe operation of the Pujiang Line, PATS has continuously reviewed and optimised various aspects such as design, production, delivery, testing, operation, and maintenance, gradually improving troubleshooting plans, shortening troubleshooting time, and making guarantee services more professional and efficient. Therefore, PATS has won full recognition and trust.

Market leading for 50+ years, Alstom’s driverless Innovia automated people movers (APM) system is a convenient transportation solution, specially designed to serve airports and dense urban areas and offers quick, comfortable, and convenient service for commuters within cities, to and from airports, or between airport terminals, with minimal infrastructure and environmental impact and highly flexible operations.

Alstom has already supplied APM systems to Beijing Capital International Airport, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, Shanghai Pujiang Line and Guangzhou Zhujiangxincheng, and is also currently delivering the Innovia APM 300 system to HKIA. Alstom’s APM technology is in service in China’s six largest urban centres, responsible for the operation and maintenance service projects in China’s four major cities, including Chengdu, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Present in China for over 60 years, Alstom participates in the full spectrum of China’s railway projects. Alstom in China has eleven joint ventures, and over 10,000 employees. Together, the joint venture have delivered more than 6,000 railway passenger cars and 1,530 electric locomotives, more than 7,200 metro cars, over 800 monorail cars, 136 automated people mover cars, and 191 tram cars to China’s growing rail transit market as well as to overseas markets. In China, Alstom also provides customers with a wide range of services solutions, from heavy maintenance to modernisations, and currently has more than 3,200 metro cars under maintenance contracts.
