Alstom T&D India has been awarded once more a contract by Essar Projects India Limited worth close to 11 million (INR 800 million approx.) to supply transformers package for Neyveli New Thermal Power Project (NNTPP) located in the state of Tamil Nadu in India.

The 1000 MW greenfield Neyveli New Thermal Power Project (NNTPP), being developed by Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited, will be the first lignitefired 2X500 MW power plant in the country and major source of power to the energy deficient southern states.

Under the scope of the contract, Alstom will be engaged in designing, engineering, manufacturing, testing, installation and commissioning of a set of generator transformers, inter-connecting transformers, station transformers up to 200MVA, 80 MVAR reactor along with other associated equipment. All the equipment will be engineered and manufactured in Alstoms world class facilities in India.

Rathin Basu, Managing Director, Alstom T&D India said: The Neyveli project is a significant project considering the crucial role it will play in improving the power situation in the southern region of the country. We are pleased that Alstoms high performing transformers will be installed at the lignite fueled power plant for the effective evacuation of the power. We have achieved the remarkable feat of being the only Indian company to have over 4 years experience in manufacturing of 765 kV transformers and reactors with localised technology and also supply of more than 200 units of 765 kV transformers and shunt reactors. Our extensive manufacturing footprint, resources and capabilities will be mobilized to make this project a success.

Alstom T&D Indias green field facility at Vadodara was inaugurated in March 2009. This facility has since ramped up production capabilities to supply transformers and shunt reactors to various clients like Power Grid, state utilities and private generating companies.

In the past, Alstom T&D India has worked with Essar on various projects like e-BOP package of 2x600 MW Salaya, 2x600 MW Mahan, 4x30 MW Paradeep and various switchyard jobs at EPTCL Hazira to name a few.
