Alstom delivered, in April, the last of the five rotors to the Teles Pires hydro plant, in Brazil. The equipment, a Francis rotor with over 260 tons, five meters high and approximately eight meters diameter, is the largest ever produced to hydro plants in Latin America, exceeding the dimensions of Tucuruí and Itaipu plants.

Because of the magnitude, the transport involved a multimodal system: road, sea and river, running approximately six thousand kilometers, between Taubaté, Santos, Nova Palmira, in Uruguay, Asuncion, in Paraguay and Cáceres, in the state of Mato Grosso, in a period of 180 days until it arrived to the customers worksite.

The Teles Pires hydro plant is being constructed on Teles Pires river, an affluent of Tapajós river, on the border of the states of Pará and Mato Grosso, in the municipalities of Jacareacanga (PA) and Paranaíta (MT). When it is fully operational, it will reach an installed capacity of 1,820 megawatts, enough power to supply a population of five million people.

Alstom scope includes the supply of five 364 MW Francis turbines, regulators and hydro-mechanical and lifting equipment for Companhia Hidrelétrica Teles Pires. Even with the conclusion of delivery of the equipment, at the moment the company is working on the commissioning of the turbines for the start of power generation. The commissioning must be concluded in the second half of this year.
