An 11-strong team of volunteers from Alstoms Thermal Power division in Ashby-de-la-Zouch has helped clear woodland and build benches next to one of the towns brooks.

The group worked on a number of different tasks, including litter picking next to the brook, clearing woodland and shrubs, maintaining a fire, installing three benches on site and taking down 20ft of wire fencing and posts. The event was supervised by Trent River Trust, which has committed itself to improving at least 40ft of Coleorton Brook, which is located next to the Alstom site.

Lucy Wheale, who was one of the Alstom organisers, said: It was a very fulfilling and satisfying day which saw employees working together to achieve good things for a great cause which everyone can benefit from in the future.

Natural England has provided funding to Trent River Trust for the work and, once interpretation panels are in place at the beginning of next month, there will be an official opening for the newly cleared area.

Alstom has around 200 people based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, working mainly for the Thermal Power division. The team offers field service support to power stations across the country.
