Between a ROC and a Good Place

Alstom and DF, consortium partners for the construction of Carrington Power Station, have presented Debra Green, OBE from Redeeming our Communities (ROC) with a donation of £5,000 towards the cost of running The Fuse in Partington.

ROC is a national charity which has recently taken out 22-year lease for The Fuse at Partington, to be used as its northern headquarters. ROC has ten years experience developing and delivering community projects across the country, aimed at addressing a variety of social needs, especially those relating to disadvantaged children and young people.

Tony Wilson, from Alstom, said: Weve used The Fuse in the past for a variety of meetings and conferences and its an excellent venue so we were pleased to be able to pledge this money towards the running costs, especially as its now in the hands of such a commendable charity.

Debra Green, from ROC, said: Local businesses such as Alstom and DF have helped us to keep this facility open.  The charitys main aim is to bring about community transformation by creating strategic partnerships which open up opportunities for crime and disorder reduction and improved community cohesion.

Julio Rodriguez, from DF, said: It was good to meet Debra and to learn of the work she and her team are undertaking within local communities, forging long-term partnerships with local volunteer organisations that help to improve the area for all.

Alstom

In the UK, Alstom has built and now maintains over half the countrys gas-fired power plants, including a 1,650MW plant in Nottinghamshire, a 2,160MW plant in Pembrokeshire, a 900MW plant in Devon and a 1,275MW plant in Kent.

At Carrington, Alstom is responsible for supplying, commissioning and maintaining the power generating equipment, including two gas turbines, two steam turbines and two heat recovery steam generators.

Alstom has been active in Manchester for many years. The Virgin trains that run between Manchester and London were designed and built by Alstom, who now maintain them at a dedicated depot in Longsight, employing around 300 people.

DF

DF specialises in the development of complex, integrated projects such as gas-fired power stations, industrial plants and fuel storage. The company carries out end-to-end project processes that include engineering, procurement, construction, erection, commissioning, operation and maintenance.

At Carrington, DF will be responsible for all the civil works, electrical and mechanical works and the construction and balance of the plant equipment.

The new power station is being developed by Carrington Power Limited, which is owned by ESB.

ROC

Redeeming Our Communities is a national charity founded in 2004 with over 150 projects, operational and under construction throughout the UK, run by newly recruited volunteers. The charitys main aim is to bring about community transformation by creating strategic partnerships which open up opportunities for crime and disorder reduction and improved community cohesion.
