Alstom and NTL are celebrating the delivery of the first car to the Ayacucho LRV project in Medellín, Colombia. The first Translohr STE5, conceived and manufactured by NTL[1] in Strasburg, France, was shipped to Medellín, via Amberes and Cartagena. Thus, NTL presents its new LRV generation with state-of-the-art motorized system applied in the three different axes in 39 meter trains, apt to run at 70 km/h. Each one of the 12 LRVs has a capacity for over 300 passengers.
Alstom, leader of the UT Alstom-Sytecsa consortium, is also in charge of the power system that will supply power to the LRVs. Alstoms scope includes project management, engineering, the supply of traction equipment (medium voltage transformers, direct current and control equipment), a distribution center and three traction substations with rectification, as well as tests. Sytecsa will be in charge of the installation of the site.
The Ayacucho LRV, whose commissioning is scheduled for mid-2015, is 4.3 km long, has a 12% slope, nine stations and maintenance workshops. It is expected that over 80,000 passengers are transported every day. The project is part of the Medellín Metro Master Plan for the Metropolitan Region, which includes several actions to be conducted between 2006 and 2030. It has the purpose of offering greater mobility to passengers and a multimodal transport system, changing the relation of the population with urban mobility.
