Alstom Foundation approves two new projects in Brazil

This year, Alstom Foudation approved two new initiatives in Brazil. As in previous years, the projects were suggested by Alstoms employees, who proved to be sensitive to the needs of the community. Pedala Zezinho and Construindo Sonhos, as the chosen programs are called, are focused on the social development of the communities and pave the way to sustainable practices and better quality of life, and also work on raising awareness and on education for sustainability.

Pedala Zezinho is a social project that stimulates children and youngsters from the outskirts of São Paulo to use bicycles for transportation, entertainment and work. The project brings the essence that riding bicycles is not important just to live with better health, as it is a physical exercise, but also contributes to avoid emissions of gases that pollute the environment. The highlight is that the project will receive the donation of used bicycles, which will be used as material in maintenance classes, so students learn how to repair them. After being repaired by the Zezinhos (name given to the youngsters served by the project), students move on to citizenship, education and road safety classes, with the purpose of stimulating this practice as a new lifestyle, healthy and safe. The concept was created by Instituto Aromeiazero, a nonprofit association qualified with OSCIP, which develops educational and cultural projects.
Construindo Sonhos is a project of Baixo Sul da Bahia region and has an educational nature. Through the Construir Melhor Education Center, it offers classes targeted at sustainability for youngster and adolescents. The technical course, which counts on a team of professionals from the Engineering, Architecture, Pedagogy, among other areas, brings theories and incentives on several environmental practices, such as planning the local growth of the communities with the reduction of deforesting levels, techniques to reuse natural resources, actions that collaborate to improve the living conditions of the population, in addition to other themes. The project supported by Alstom is a partnership of Odebrecht Foundation with OSCIP Companheiros do Dever.
In all, nine projects were approved in Latin America, two in Brazil, one in Chile, one in Colombia, one in Guatemala, two in Mexico and one in Panamá. In Haiti, one project was approved.
Alstom Foundation supports, since 2007, institutions in the execution of projects for preservation of the environment and improvement of the living conditions of communities in different countries. As Alstom is a global supplier of clean energy generation and transmission and sustainable rail solutions, the company and its employees collaborate to improve the quality of life of the communities around its operational units. Other social projects are also approved by the company through incentive laws and local budgets.
