Alstom delivered, for the upcoming commissioning, the works of project Up-grade Headway 180 seconds, of our client Metro Valparaíso, the suburban train operator in Gran Valparaíso, Chile.

This project will allow the company to increase the possibilities of operating with improved intervals between trains, which are currently 300 seconds maximum. The CMT MUX base signaling system was supplied by Alstom Brazil in 2005 and has operated with excellent results so far, for which reason the client has trusted Alstom to potentiate its current signaling systems.

The Up-grade Headway 180 seconds project, led by Alstom TIS Brazil along with TLS Chile, is part of a series of projects that will allow for the increase in the passenger transport capacity of Metro Valparaíso, with the commissioning of 8 new X´Trapolis Modular units that have also been ordered to Alstom and which will be manufactured in the Santa Perpetua plant, in Barcelona, and which will add to the 27 X´Trapolis 100 units (Alstom La Rochelle France, 2004) which currently render services to this client.

This milestone belongs to a series of joint successes dating back to 2002, when Metro Valparaíso granted Alstom several supply contracts; Substations, Rolling Stock, Signaling and Control Center. This, along with a long term work under the Rolling Stock (until 2035) and Signaling (until 2021) maintenance contracts, has allowed for the generation of the bases of reliability and availability which, added to optimum commercial operation criteria, have allowed Metro Valparaíso to go from transporting 9 million passengers during 2005 to exceeding 20 million in 2013, which turns Metro Regional in the most important one in Chile.
