Alstom and China Datang Corporation (CDT) finalized a strategic cooperation agreement during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to France, at an economic forum on Franco-Chinese relations in Paris, to form a long-term partnership supporting CDTs future power infrastructure projects in China and around the world. Jerome Pecresse, President of Alstom Renewable Power, and Chen Jinhang, Chairman of China Datang Corporation signed the agreement.
Both parties agreed to establish a strategic cooperation relationship in the supply of power equipment and technical solutions in the thermal and renewable energy sectors. The scope of the agreement includes CDTs future project investments as well as the retrofit and upgrading of CDTs operating power equipment and optimization of its existing power plants.
"The agreement with CDT underlines the strong links between Alstom and our Chinese customers. It takes our ten-year cooperation to a new height. The expanded partnership, which leverages Alstoms technological expertise and broad portfolio, will enhance CDTs competitiveness in the global energy market by enabling them to build and upgrade power generating infrastructures that meet the increasing demand for clean and reliable electricity," said Pecresse.
CDT is one of Chinas top five power generation groups, with total installed capacity at approximately 119.48GW. It has built a solid presence in China as well as the Asian markets such as Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. The company has also exhibited great development potential in thermal, hydro, wind and solar power generation markets worldwide. As a global leader in power generation, Alstoms proven technology and competitive offerings will ensure the efficient, reliable and eco-friendly operation of CDTs power generation facilities.
Alstoms cooperation with CDT dates back to 2004, when Alstom supplied five 350 MW Francis turbine generator units to CDTs PengShui hydropower project. In 2010, Alstom signed a contract for the supply of another three 600 MW Francis turbine generator units to Guanyinyan hydropower station. In 2011, Alstom and CDT signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop carbon capture and storage (CCS) demonstration projects in China.
