Alstom to build a Flue Gas Desulphurisation plant for EDF at Rybnik Power Plant, Poland

EDF and Alstom have signed a contract for the turnkey construction of a complete Wet Flue Gas Desulphurisation (WFGD) plant at Rybnik Power Plant, southern Poland.

The WFGD plant is based on Alstoms latest generation of Open Spray Tower technology, allowing for high SOx removal efficiency, high reliability, low power and reagent consumptions. It will join Alstoms list of WFGD references totalling 60,000 MWe worldwide.

Alstom will design, supply, install and commission the WFGD plant including associated civil works of two absorbers, two booster fans and relevant ducts, one 125 metre high stack with 2 separate flues, process building, emergency storage building, limestone slurry preparation, gypsum dewatering and transport to storage system and common auxiliaries capable of treating the emissions from 4 to 5 boilers each of 225 MWe.

The new absorbers will reduce the SO₂ emissions to a maximum concentration of 200 mg/Nm^3, allowing the power plant to meet the requirements of the EU Industrial Emissions Directive set to come into force in 2016.

The commissioning of the WFGD plant is scheduled for 2016.
