Alstom Grid Poland and Elektrobudowa S.A. have signed two contracts for the delivery of a 400 kV gas-insulated substation at Skawina and a 220 kV substation at Byczyna, both located in southern Poland. The equipment will be installed in the substations owned by PSE S.A. Polish grid operator.

Both substations will be constructed under the 2.4 billion (PLN 9.9 billion) investment programme launched by PSE S.A. to improve the reliability and safety of the Polish grid.

For this project, Alstom provides its cutting-edge solutions to support the upgrade of the Polish grid. The Byczyna substation will be one of the largest on the European market. In technological terms, it will provide the most modern availability features. The Alstom solution includes additional isolating devices and partitioning which increase availability and maintainability to the highest level of the market. said Micha Golasz, Alstom Grid Poland Director.

The 220 kV substation at Byczyna will include 20 circuit breaker bays and, at Skawina, the company will supply 9 T155 circuit breaker bays. Compared to the previous version, Alstoms T155 gas-insulated substation is 40% smaller in size, and reduces erection time by 30%.

Alstom is a leading supplier of high voltage gas-insulated substations in Poland. Most recently, Alstom Grid Poland was awarded two contracts for 110 kV and 220 kV gas-insulated substations for the Ustronie project in Lubin in the south of the country and for the Kopanina project in south-east Poland.

The Byczyna substation is scheduled for commissioning in autumn 2015 and the Skawina substation in autumn 2016.
