Alstom Grid and its partner "Integrated Energy Systems" company (KER) held customer seminars on the cutting edge high voltage direct current (HVDC) technologies from 25th to 28th June in Moscow and then in St. Petersburg.

In parallel with the seminars Alstom and KER announced the creation of a 50/50 joint venture to implement HVDC projects in Russia. The enterprise will offer design and project management services for complex HVDC projects to address the demand for reliable power supply and the implementation of advanced Super Grid technologies.

The Joint Venture Company will support the development of the Russian HVDC and Supergrid market, which is worth approximately 2.5 billion over the next seven years. It provides localised HVDC expertise and engineering in Russia through an Alstom-KER Engineering Centre based in St. Petersburg. Together, Alstom and KER will participate in local tenders such as the Leningrad NPP - Vyborg project, currently under finalisation, which will link Russia and Finland via an HVDC interconnection.

Creation of joint venture was celebrated by a cocktail at the «Hyatt Hotel» in Moscow and a VIP-dinner for clients in St. Petersburg. Both events were held in the presence of the Alstom and KER top management, representatives of the Embassy of France to Russia, as well as senior representatives of major Russian companies, such as "Russian Grids", JSC "MRSK Holding", JSC "System Operator of UES."
