After a construction period of around 14 months, the topping-out ceremony for the shell of the new transformer station took place today in Berlin-Britz, Germany. To mark the occasion, Stromnetz Berlin GmbH, the operator of the German capitals power distribution network, invited politicians and residents of the Neukölln district as well as the companies involved in construction of the new building to the traditional toast and to a tour of the building. The network operator is spending around 28 million Euro on the new transformer station in Britz. Once it has been completed in October 2014, it will supply around 25,000 domestic and 1,400 commercial customers with power.
At the heart of the new transformer station is Alstoms gas-insulated, and thus very space-saving, high-voltage electrical substation, which switches the power at the 110,000 volt level. A project such as the Britz transformer station in an inner-city environment always constitutes a particular challenge, and we were more than happy to accept this challenge with our team. We are proud of the result that we have achieved together with our partners, says Axel Kossmann, Country Sales Director Germany at Alstom Grid GmbH. We are happy to carry out this project to the full satisfaction of our customer. In addition to delivering all substations as well as the protection and control technology, Alstom Grid in its capacity as general contractor is in charge of the complete construction of the new, ready-to-use 110,000 to 10,000 volt transformer station.
