Four Francis turbines successfully spun within 24 hours

Alstom in India today announced a major milestone that it achieved when all four 60 MW Francis vertical turbines being installed by Alstom at the Uri II HEP successfully completed the spinning in less than twenty four hours.  The 240 MW Uri-II Hydro Power Project is being constructed by the NHPC on river Jhelum near Uri in Baramulla District of Jammu & Kashmir.

Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Frederic Teyssedou, Unit Managing Director, Alstom Hydro India, said, The spinning of all four machines in record time and that too in such challenging weather conditions and tough terrain with a very remote location of the site as well being close to the LoC (Line of Control) is a testimony of the commendable work done by the Alstom team.  Alstom Hydro India is synonymous with cutting edge technological expertise and we are striving hard to provide our customers and partners with the very best, year on year.  Alstoms state-of-the-art hydro facility at Vadodara will continue to innovate to meet the needs of domestic as well as international projects."

The test marks an important stage in the Uri II project, where Alstom is delivering the units on a turnkey basis from its Vadodara Hydro site.  In the coming months, the Units would be further synchronized with Grid. Alstom was awarded the Uri II HEP contract by NHPC in 2007.  The scope of work included turnkey execution of Electro-Mechanical lot comprising of hydro turbines, generators and auxiliaries.

Uri II 240 MW Hydro-Electric Project aims to use downstream water discharge of Uri-I (already running) 480 MW Hydro Project for power generation. It will also provide additional stability to the Northern Grid as well.
