Alstom Grid has been selected by Petroamazonas, one of the most important Oil and Gas customers in Latin America, to deliver two gas-insulated substations (GIS) in substitution to the old diesel plant. The contract is part of the project of electrical system Ecuador Interconnected Future Extended O & G, which will help reduce the diesel generation by 65% per year in Ecuador.
The scope of the contract - worth more than 12 million includes the turnkey supply to Sacha and CPF substation, of 69kV. Both substations are located in the eastern region of the country, 500 km away from Quito, the capital.
The gas-insulated solutions are specifically designed to avoid corrosion, offering a long service life expectancy. Its modular design saves space and also allows each of the compartments to be independently monitored. These features mean that it can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications and allows for easy availability during repair and extension.
The project of the electrical system Ecuador Interconnected Future Extended O&G is a large national project and a key component of the energy efficiency program in the country, the OGE (Optimization of Electricity Generation). The program, launched by Petroamazonas in 2008, is an international benchmark for energy efficiency in the oil sector, with a focus on long-term sustainable projects.
Jérôme Barthe, Vice-Chairman of the Oil and Gas segment of Alstom Grid, said: "This project marks the successful entry of Alstom Grid in the Oil and Gas sector in Ecuador, which has the third largest oil reserves in South America behind only from Venezuela and Brazil. It is the first phase of the global power system interconnected of oil and gas, and to Alstom Grid, presents an opportunity for long-term cooperation in the future development of Petroamazonas."
Both substations are scheduled to be commissioned in early 2014.
