Alstoms Thermal Services business has recently inaugurated its Switched Integrated Rectifier (SIR) manufacturing site in Beijing. With this facility Alstom aims to support Chinese power and industrial operators to meet the new emission regulations and reduce pollution, and to reinforce its local presence in the service market with local production of SIR 4 in the country.

The new workshop is located at Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA) with an area of more than 1,300 square meters and is part of Alstoms air quality control systems (AQCS) execution center in China. This execution center is dedicated to provide first-class expertise and service capabilities in air pollution control and offers a wide range of technologically advanced products as well as related upgrades and retrofit services.

The SIR reduces drastically particulate emission level and improves the electrostatic precipitators (ESP) overall performance to meet the demands of plant operators in reducing dust emissions from various combustion and industrial processes.

The fourth generation, the SIR 4, is the latest version of Alstoms advanced ESP energiser improving its overall performance without the need for costly modifications. It combines modern solid-state power electronics with switching technology, can be used with both Alstom and any other suppliers ESP and uses advanced energy management software to optimize the electrical consumption while guaranteeing full emission compliance. With a worldwide fleet of 2500 units including more than 100 units in China, SIR is a well proven and robust high frequency power supply for ESPs.

"The opening of our Beijing workshop is a milestone for Alstom Thermal Services in China as it showcases Alstoms commitment to accelerating local competency and bringing Alstoms technology strengths to our local customers," said Liu Yi, Managing Director of Alstom Thermal Services in China. "Our objective is to enable our customers to be in compliance with the most stringent environmental regulations. The Beijing workshop, benefiting from Alstoms worldwide expertise and experiences, offers a cost effective solution to help Chinese customers achieve the lowest particulate emission possible."

The center has successfully implemented several projects in the past few years in China, including SIR and EPIC upgrade and optimization at Shajiao C Power Plant, Meizhouwan Power Plant, a number of industrial process ESPs of Baotou steel and ESP upgrading at Bao Steel power plant, etc.
