Alstom Grid Turkey broke a new ground once again by manufacturing the biggest generator step-up transformer, 710 MVA, 400/21 kV produced in Gebze site. This is also the first transformer produced by Gebze site to be delivered to Slovenia. The transformer is destined for the 600 MW Power Island substation for end user Thermoelektrarna OTANJ (TES), the Slovenian state-owned utility.
This oil immersed, 710 MVA, 400/21 kV, 50 Hz, Ynd5, OLTC (On Load Tap Changer) and ODWF cooling generator step-up transformer was manufactured with a special mechanical design due to transport constraints and the client requirements. It is equipped with MS 3000 monitoring system to provide maximal support to accurately access the main OTANJ transformer components and correlate the acquired data.
The transformer has successfully passed all special and type tests, which were required according to customer technical specification, as well as routine factory tests. . The transformer and all its components are designed and capable to meet the demanding seismic conditions of the customer.
Despite its large dimension, this generator step-up transformer has a very low noise levels. Alstom designed the transformer with an ODWF (Oil Directed Water Forced) cooling system which is normally used in very high rated transformer, to fulfil the requested environmental specifications.
Commenting on the award, Herve Bernabeu Alstom Grid Turkey Power Transformers Unit Managing Director declared Alstom Grids local Turkish site has won this project despite the strong international competition. The awards demonstrates that our Gebze factory is preferred not only in Turkey, but in the world thanks to our high quality standards, modern manufacturing techniques and comprehensive test laboratories.
