Alstom with leading utilities and other industry urge EU policy makers to save flagship Emissions Trading Scheme

30 leading companies and associations call upon the European Parliament and governments to support proposals for an immediate intervention to restore confidence in the EU Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS).
These companies represent EU ETS sectors including electricity and gas companies as well as industrial companies in the petro-chemicals, refineries and manufacturing sectors. It also includes low-carbon equipment manufacturers and financial institutions.
Background:
The European Parliament votes on 19th February 2013 to agree a proposal that would allow 900 million allowances to be taken out of the EU ETS for sale at a later date.
This intervention will send a strong signal to companies, investors and low-carbon technology providers that the EU ETS is the centre-piece of climate and energy policy
Some governments (Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, Hungary, Romania and Czech Republic) have yet to agree their positions on the proposal which is holding up progress in the European Parliament.
