Alstom has witnessed a rapid development in China in the year of 2012, with a high record of 12 hydro units, greater than 400MW per unit, put into operation. A Global Technology Centre (GTC) was also announced to be established in Alstoms new Tianjin facility in the same year.
The 12 units, amounting to a total installed capacity of 7.15GW, were manufactured by Alstom and successfully delivered to Ahai, Jinping 2, Nuozhadu, Son La and Xiangjiaba (biggest Francis turbine in the world with output voltage of 23 kV) projects respectively in 2012. All these units have been developed with the latest technological advantages delivered by Alstoms R&D hydro centres in Europe.
With the addition of the new Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Tianjin, which Alstom started to build in July 2012, Alstom Hydro China will become a full value chain entity with a wide array of hydro activities, ranging from R&D, sales & marketing, engineering design, sourcing, manufacturing, project management, installation maintenance and service. The set-up of GTC reflects Alstoms commitment to accelerate competence and R&D capabilities in China and bring the latest technology to local customers.
The upgrading of Tianjin new industrial facility also neared completion in 2012. It is the largest hydro facility of Alstom worldwide and will address the local, regional and export markets. Alstom will deliver and promote worldwide Researched, Designed and Made in China hydro products, from 20MW to 1000MW per unit, with the highest quality standards.
Alstom is a leading supplier of hydro power generation equipment and systems in China with around a 20% share of the Chinese large hydro equipment market. Present in the country for more than 17 years, Alstom has been actively engaging in technology transfer, modernization of industrial footprint, development of local resources as well as promotion of renewable energy source such as hydro.
Alstom will continue to play a major role in developing hydro market in China and abroad while contributing to the social development inside and around its industrial site in Tianjin. This success is shared with the Chinese authorities, our customers, partners and employees, said Yves Rannou, General Manager of Alstoms Hydro Business in China.
