Alstom will present its latest solutions for a more flexible, fluid and efficient transport systems at the 4th International Railway Industry Salon BcnRail, to be held on 19-21 November 20013 in Barcelona (Pavilion 2- Stand B 236).
Over the 3 days, Alstom Transport will be presenting to professionals of the sector, its latest developments related to energy optimization, railway signalling and safety systems, as well as information technology in the maintenance services and the export capacity. Alstom will also participate in the technical seminars dedicated to maintenance services (20 and 21 November) and in the meeting with local providers that will take place during the event.
Sustainable solutions
Regarding energy efficiency, Alstom features the presentation of the latest solutions to enable more efficient and sustainable train operation, with sensors that analyze energy consumption to provide the drivers with real-time information about the most suitable train operation patterns at any time.
In the area of energy optimization, reversible substations deserve special attention. Alstom presents Hesop, an advanced power solution which offers better energy efficiency and allows to optimize the infrastructure investment by reducing the number of substations on the line. Hesop recovers over 99% of braking energy and enables it to be re-used or re-injected into the grid, leading to major savings on energy consumption.
Signalling and safety technologies
Alstom will present its ERTMS solutions, from the most sophisticated level 2 for high-speed lines to applications for conventional lines, such as the one introduced in 2012 on the Madrid’s suburban railway network to improve rail traffic flow in the capital.
Alstom’s ERTMS successful application for mixed gauge rail (or third rail) use will be also shown at BCN Rail. The mixed gauge system is installed inside the existing rails so that trains with international (1.435 mm) and Iberian gauges (1.668 mm) can run on the same tracks, enabling interoperability between European and Spanish networks. So far 170 kilometres of the third rail have already been implemented in Spain. This technology developed in Spain can also address countries such as Portugal or former Soviet republics (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldavia, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan).
Maintenance Services and export capacity
More than twenty years ago, Alstom Spain was the first rail manufacturer to perform full railway maintenance services, which has led to the creation of a business unit within Alstom Transport. The application of new information technologies, with real-time data analysis of the equipment on trains, allows significant improvements in this area, improving reliability ratios and availability of the train and infrastructure.
Finally, Alstom Transport in Spain will show its export capacity. Over 70% of its turnover currently comes from overseas. The main features are rolling stock (for Latin America, the United Kingdom, North Africa or Russia), electrification systems (Alstom Transport Spain teams are working on tramway systems in Algeria or Colombia) and signalling equipment (among which we can highlight the implementation of an ERTMS system between the towns of Eskisehir and Balikesir, a 328km corridor located in the north of Turkey).
