Alstom will deliver two steam turbine and generator sets for ultrasupercritical coal-fired power plant in Korea

Alstom has signed with Dongbu Corporation a contract to deliver equipment for Dongbu Green Power Plant 1&2 (1200 MW), the first ultrasupercritical coal-fired power plant to be constructed by an Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Korea. This contract[1], valued at over 100 million, covers the delivery of two 600MW steam turbines, generator sets and accessories. It will be completed by 2016. The turbines and generators will be manufactured in Alstoms production sites in Europe and China.
Dongbu Green Power Plant will contribute to Koreas growing energy demands that are projected to grow at 2.3% per year through 2030. Koreas current capacity is estimated at 90GW, with the total capacity expected to reach approximately 110GW by 2020.
Ultrasupercritical power plants operate at a higher temperature than regular coal-fired power plants. The high temperature improves their efficiency, increasing the amount of power output and decreasing emissions, particularly CO2 per unit of fuel burned.

This contract - Alstoms largest steam turbine and generator order in Korea - further strengthens the companys position as a key player in Korea, having been part of nearly 15GW of the installed capacity of the country. Alstom has delivered more than 20 gas turbines as well as supplied over 50% of the countrys installed boilers and hydro turbines.
