The study is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2012 and will be conducted by Alstom engineers working at the German site in Stuttgart. In addition to optimising the double reheat steam cycle to reach highest degrees of efficiency for power plants, the study will focus on the investigation of the optimum routing of the cost-intensive superheat and reheat steam connection pipes to and from the turbine. The aim is to locate the turbine as close as possible to the final superheater- and hot reheater outlet headers. The study is expected to offer results, which can also be beneficial for the 700° C ultra-supercritical technology.

According to Frédéric Pierucci, Vice President Boiler from Alstom Power Systems, The contract is a continuation of the long-lasting relationship between Alstom and Waigaoqiao Power Plant in China and further demonstrates Alstom´s leadership in ultra-supercritical boiler technology. Alstom has successfully installed the boilers for phase II (2 x 900 MW) and was responsible for the engineering of the boilers for phase III (2 x 1,000 MW) of the Waigaoqiao Power Plant. The boilers are considered best of their class in China.

Alstom is the world leader in advanced steam cycle boilers firing a wide range of fuels with numerous units in operation and in construction.
