Russian and European manufacturers strengthen ties

UIRE (Russian Union of Rail Equipment Manufacturers) signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation with UNIFE (European Rail Industry Association) at the seventh 1520 Strategic Partnership Forum held in Sochi, Russia from 30 May to 1 June.

Both associations were represented by their current presidents, Valentin Gapanovitch, Senior Vice-President of Russian Railways and Henri Poupart-Lafarge, President of Alstom Transport.

The agreement is expected to strengthen ties between the Russian and European railway sectors, and includes holding seminars to enable experts from both sides to gain a more in-depth understanding of current rail regulations in Russia and Europe. It also provides for joint cooperation in a number of areas, including standardization, homologation procedures, and quality management.

1520 Strategic Partnership Forum

The forum provides decision-makers, legislators, academics and manufacturers from the rail sector with an opportunity to discuss the development of the rail networks in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) and the EAEC (Eurasian Economic Community).For the second year running, the forum addressed the issue of the standardization of rail networks and systems across the Eurasian continent.
