In France, Alstom Transport, Hiolle Industries, LME Trith, Ramery Environnement and the Vitamine T Group have set up an industrial consortium for a project to decommission end-of-life railway rolling stock.

Coaches that are no longer in operation need to be decommissioned. Too often, the various materials of which they are made are sorted non-systematically and the waste is dumped in landfills.

This new partnership tackles the three challenges of sustainable development: the environmental preservation, through the development of an ecologically virtuous decommissioning process (removal of all asbestos and maximum recycling of all materials used); the economy; and society, by helping people find jobs throughout the region (job creation).

The consortium boasts all the expertise required for decommissioning rolling stock for the rail sector. Its strength lies in the complementary nature of its expertise and the experience of the companies within it.

The first coaches for decommissioning belong to the RATP. This first test will serve as a means of measuring and validating the technical, social, environmental and economic aims of the consortium.
