Increase of energy efficiency in an existing power plant through replacement of a high-pressure module.
Alstom was awarded a retrofit contract for Block 4 in the coal-fired power station Herne by Steag GmbH, the firth largest energy generating company in Germany. With the complete exchange of a high-pressure module, the energy efficiency of Block 4 will be increased and the specific CO2-load will be decreased. The high-pressure module consists of a rotor and the fixed parts (housing and live steam valve) as well as of the related control system. Both the control and the protection system are essential for the operation of a turbine.
