The consortium Alstom Grid and SIAG Nordseewerke GmbH has been awarded a turnkey contract by Nordsee Offshore MEG 1 GmbH, a fully-owned subsidiary of Windreich AG, for delivery of an offshore wind farm substation. This turnkey project involves the supply and installation of a self-floating and self-installing 33/155kV offshore substation to connect the MEG 1 offshore wind farm to the German High Voltage Direct Current system.
Alstom Grid, the global electrical grid expert, is partnering with the Emden based SIAG Nordseewerke GmbH for the steelwork, secondary equipment of the platform as well as offshore transport and installation.
Nordsee Offshore MEG 1 GmbH plans to construct and operate the offshore wind farm MEG 1 that will guarantee the efficient and ready access to wind energy in Germany. This offshore wind farm will be able to feed-in a total power of 400 MW into the public grid, which is sufficient to energize 450,000 households and will save 1.35 million tons of CO2 emissions annually.
With this new success Alstom demonstrates once again its competence and leading position for offshore grid connections. The complex challenges that are given with its short realisation periods in the offshore business can be best-solved with strong, local partnerships, commented Gerhard Seyrling, Regional Vice-President for Central & Eastern Europe and Russia of Alstom Grid.
The offshore wind farm MEG 1 will be located in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the German North Sea 45 km north of the island of Borkum and will consist of 80 wind turbines with a power output of 5 MW each. The start of the commercial operation is planned by the end of 2014.
