IMMA begins the qualification course for handicapped people

IMMA Indústria Metalúrgica e Mecânica da Amazônia, the first on-demand capital goods industry in Brazils North region, the result of a joint venture between Alstom and Bardella, held last Monday, November 12, in Porto Velho, the inaugural class of the course  for Production Assistant, whose participants are handicapped.

The course, which is called Special Guaporé, is part of Guaporé Project, an initiative organized by IMMA since 2009, and offers general information about several areas in industry and commerce. In this first group, 31 students with hearing and physical impairment, aged between 16 and 26 years, will be hired by the Young Apprentices program held by Senai (brazilian entity that develops technical courses in partnership with companies).

The project´s objective is to provide more opportunities and training for these new professionals. Through the course, we hope to provide the technical basis for what they intent to work", says Karina Lapido, Human Resources Manager at IMMA.

The course has the duration of 12 months and the project classes are taught in Senai building. The training includes lessons on areas such as Planning, Marketing, Management, Quality Management and also has moments of interaction between students and professionals from different areas of IMMA.

With the purpose of subsidizing hydroelectric projects in Brazils northern region, through the provision of hydromechanical and lifting equipment for the undertakings of this sector in Amazonia, Alstom, world leader in power and transport infrastructure, has associated to Bardella, a traditional domestic capital goods company with on-demand engineering, for the construction of Indústria Metalúrgica e Mecânica da Amazônia - IMMA.  With an investment of R$ 90 million, the works, delivered in March 2010, are located in Porto Velho, State of Rondônia, and have 235 thousand square meters of total area and 33 thousand square meters of built-up area. Equipped with operating machines, boilermaking area, gritblasting and painting, the factory has a lifting capacity of 130 tons and production of 12 thousand tons a year.
