Visit Emphasizes Mentoring & Job Creation
Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) visited Alstom’s facilities in Windsor, Connecticut, today to draw attention to his efforts to promoteeducational training initiatives that will lead to job creation. During his visit to Alstom’s offices, the Senator met with several Alstom employees who have mentored students in the Windsor area and heard stories of how those programs helped students make more informed career decisions.
The Senator was also given a demonstration on how Alstom’s engineering activities in Windsor help support the construction of modern and efficient power plants. In addition, he was given a tour of the company’s Windsor R&D Electronic and Controls Engineering Lab where we heard how researchers are developing electronic controls for boiler and environmental control, designing and deploying an automated system for digital image analysis of boiler tubes to improve manufacturing quality control, and working to improve technology that will be used in solar thermal facilities being developed in partnership with BrightSource Energy.
Senator Blumenthal thanked the Alstom employees involved in the mentoring and job shadowing programs and commended the company’s engineering teams for the important work they are doing in Connecticut to develop clean power solutions.
Tim Curran, the President of Alstom Power Inc., hosted the meeting with the Senator. Curran told the Senator, “As a company with a proud engineering tradition, we know how important it is to train the next generation of scientists and engineers. They will discover, test, design, and implement the technology innovations that help produce the most efficient, most reliable, and most sustainable sources of electricity possible.”
