A clean energy upgrade to power 30,000 additional homes in the Pacific Northwest.

Alstom recently was recognized on the website of the National Hydropower Association (NHA) for performing the 21st century upgrade of Chief Joseph Dam in Bridgeport, Washington.

Once complete, this modernization project will increase the dams power output by 40MW and boost turbine efficiency to 95% or better. That means more clean power for as many as 30,000 homes in the Northwestern U.S.

The Chief Joseph Dam, originally completed in 1961, is the second largest hydropower dam in the United States, and the largest dam operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Work is currently underway at Alstom on the manufacture, supply and refurbishment of several Francis turbine components for the project.

Hydropower generation is just one of Alstoms clean energy solutions. The company is dedicated to meeting Americas growing demand for clean, efficient energy and hydropower plays a key role in fulfilling that commitment.

Alstom also acknowledges the importance of generating power from existing hydro infrastructure and is consistently developing and producing the technologies necessary to keep these structures running efficiently.

The Chief Joseph refurbishment project is just one example of Alstoms hydro capabilities.
