Alstom
has secured a contract from the Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company
(Takreer) - the oil-refining branch of the Abu Dhabi National Oil
Company (ADNOC), one of the worlds largest oil producers, to partially
upgrade four Alstom GT13E2 gas turbines installed at the 500 MW Ruwais
gas-fired power plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The upgrade
will be installed during a major overhaul carried out at the plant.
The scope of the contract includes the supply of spare parts, major overhaul of each of the plants four GT13E2 gas turbines and a partial MXL upgrade of the gas turbines. The MXL upgrade technology offers the operational flexibility of M mode for increased power and efficiency, or XL mode for increased lifetime and extended inspection intervals. The operator has the freedom to switch online between the two operational modes as market conditions demand. Overhaul work is scheduled for completion by end 2013.

Commenting on the contract, Sylvain Hijazi, Country President, Alstom UAE said, This order reflects Takreers confidence in Alstoms technology and service capabilities. This will be the third major overhaul that we will be executing at the Ruwais plant and we are confident that like the previous projects, this upgrade will increase the competitiveness of our customers asset.

Alstom commissioned the Ruwais power and desalination plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE in 1999. The cogeneration plant provides 500 MW of power and eight million gallons of water per day for ADNOC. The facility is located in the coastal industrial area of Ruwais, 230 km west of the capital Abu Dhabi City.
