Knoxville, TN - Alstom today announced it is the recipient of the Construction Industry Institutes (CII) Benchmarking User Award. Alstoms U.S. Environmental Control Systems (ECS) business was selected based on its integration of benchmarking into their business processes whereby all projects are surveyed and input into CII's Benchmarking and Metrics database. The Construction Industry Institute, based at The University of Texas at Austin, is a consortium of more than 115 leading owner, engineering-contractor, and supplier firms from both the public and private arenas that have joined together to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of construction. This marks the second time Alstom has received this industry recognition as the companys benchmarking program also was recognized during CIIs award program in 2007.

"Alstoms Environmental Control Systems (ECS) business benefits from CII membership both directly through benchmarking and indirectly through participation on boards and in conferences. The CII Benchmarking Award reflects our broad participation in the Institute as well as our effective implementation of the Benchmarking Survey into our project management discipline," said Jim Yann, Managing Director, ECS North America at Alstom.

Alstoms participation in the CII benchmarking database provides the company with a tool to continuously measure, evaluate and improve its project execution metrics and performance. In addition to raw data on quantities, the companys benchmarking approach includes project performance parameters such as cost, schedule, and quality as well as use of best practices around constructability reviews and lessons learned. Since 2005, Alstom has submitted benchmarking data for more than 40 projects, and CII has acknowledged that this sustained participation has led to a number of improvements in project execution.

Participation in industry-wide benchmarking activities benefits all parties, including customers.

Yann said, Alstom is committed to providing our customers with the best products through implementation of best practices. CII Benchmarking gives Alstom the tools and resources needed to provide customers with the most desirable products.
