Joan MacNaughton, Senior Vice President of Alstoms Power and Environmental Policies function, has been elected President of the UK Energy Institute for 2011-2013, the first woman to be appointed to the prestigious post.
The Energy Institute is the countrys professional body for the energy sector and has 14,000 individual members and 300 company members. The Institute offers a wide range of skills training on energy and environmental topics, and, as a Learned Society, it is empowered to award Chartered status to energy professionals.
The appointment not only honours Joans work over many years, it makes her a role model for all young women in the energy sector, a sector with many dimensions: social, economic, political and technical.
