Washington, D.C. - Alstom Power and Infosys today announced they recentlywere selected as finalists for the Microsoft Sustainability Partner of the Year Award during the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference held July 10-14 in Los-Angeles.

Awards were presented in multiple categories, with winners chosen from a set of more than 3,000 entrants worldwide. The Sustainability Partner of the Year Award recognized Alstom Power & Infosys - along with the other companies recognized - for delivering software and technology innovations built on the Microsoft platform that help people and organizations around the world reduce their impact on the environment.

Alstom and Infosys were selected for their development of OptiPlant, an innovative application based on the latest Microsoft technologies which helps power plant operators to deal with the challenges of todays electricity markets, such as integration of intermittent renewable power generation, CO2 emissions management, and highly deregulated power markets areas where traditional power plant control systems fall short.

OptiPlant aggregates, consolidates and analyses plant fleet data in real time and provides simulation capacities to enable power plant operators to meet their objectives in terms of financial & technical performance, emissions control, and maintenance.

We are delighted to have been selected as finalists for the 2011 Microsoft Sustainability Partner of the Year award, said Dominique Llonch, Vice President Power Automation & Controls, Alstom Power. OptiPlant lowers the environmental impact of energy production by increasing efficiency and making full use of renewable energies as well as improving the return on assets for power plant operators. So we feel this is a very valuable solution to our customers.

Sudhir Chaturvedi, Vice President, Manufacturing sector, Infosys, added: We are glad to be recognized as finalist for Microsofts Sustainability Partner of the Year award. Today's power plants need to integrate renewable energy sources to meet regulations and improve energy efficiency while maximising financial performance. The OptiPlant platform developed by Alstom and Infosys creates a more sustainable tomorrow by improving return on assets and lowering the environmental impact of energy production.

We are proud to recognize this outstanding group from our highly valued worldwide partner network as our 2011 Partner Award finalists, said Jon Roskill, corporate vice president, Worldwide Partner Group, from Microsoft.
