Generating Partnerships at Alstoms Offshore Wind Supply Chain Event, 7-8 July 2011

Over 130 people attended a Supply Chain event, hosted by Alstom’s Offshore Wind experts in Bolton on 7th and 8th July.

The event was organised to support the development of the first new generation 6 MW offshore wind turbine and identify suitable partners for Alstom to establish the UK supply chain.

The event comprised of a series of presentations, followed by workshops and individual meetings with Alstom’s Supply Chain specialists, in areas such as nacelle housing, towers, foundations and cranes.

Stephen Burgin, UK Country President and Head of Power opened the event, introducing potential suppliers to Alstom and its portfolio. He was followed by Edward Rae, Vice President, Wind Supply Chain announcing that Alstom is seeking innovative and reliable partners, who can deliver components in a timely and cost effective manner, with longer term cost reductions.

Guest speakers were invited from The Crown Estate and the UK Trade and Investment who addressed the audience on the dynamics of the UK market and how the UK is the world’s most attractive market for offshore wind, in turn driving investment, supported by the UK Government.

Frederic Hendrick, Vice President, Offshore Wind presented the unique features of Alstom's new generation 6 MW offshore wind turbine and outlined manufacturing plans, to ensure Alstom is first to the market with a new generation of offshore wind turbine, that is robust, simple and efficient and ready for the first UK Round three projects.

The event feedback was extremely positive with many suppliers voicing a keen interest in establishing long term relationships with Alstom as the company unveils its UK investment plans.
