Russia's state-owned railway company, RZD, has just given
the "RZD Award 2008" to Alstom Transport in the Best International
Partner of the Year" category. The trophy was presented to Philippe
Mellier, Alstom Transport's president, by Vladimir Yakunine, RZDs president,
at a ceremony held in Moscow as part of the annual "Transport Services
Market: Corporation & Partnership" conference.

The
prize was set up in 2005, and is designed to reward foreign companies for their
contributions to the modernisation of Russia's rail network.

"It
is a great honour for Alstom Transport to be given this award. It is evidence
of the confidence that RZD has in our ability to work with them in the long
run", said Philippe Mellier at the prize-giving ceremony.

It
was in 2007 that Alstom Transport won its first contract for Russia's
mainline rail network. Karelian Trains, a joint venture set up by RZD and
Finnish Railways, chose Alstom for a contract worth 120 million involving the
delivery of 4 high-speed Pendolino trains. These trains are expected to come
into service in 2010, and will cut journey times between St
Petersburg and Helsinki
from 5 1/2 hours to just under 3 hours.

Alstom
Transport has also just signed a contract to enter into a strategic partnership
with RZD's manufacturer and main supplier - Transmashholding (TMH).
