The formal opening of one of the UKs newest and biggest gas-fired power plants was cause for celebration by Alstom and RWE npower.
Alstom Chairman and Chief Executive Patrick Kron and Alstom Power President Philippe Joubert were among nearly 200 guests invited by RWE npower to the inauguration of the new Alstom-built Staythorpe C power station on 9th May.
UK Government Energy Minister Charles Hendry MP joined RWE Chief Executive Dr Jürgen Grossmann to officially open what is, at 1.7 GW, the second largest gas-fired plant in the United Kingdom.
At the ceremony, Mr Kron presented RWE with a commemorative gift of a mounted turbine blade.
This is a success story that is being repeated at Alstom's other new GT26-based power plant for RWE npower, the 2,160 MW Pembroke project in Wales.
