VIP Visit from IMechE President to Alstom Rugby

On Friday 13th May, John Wood, 125th President of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) visited Alstom in Rugby, accompanied by three other members of the IMechE including John Butler, Vice Chairman of the Midland Region.
Alstom has a long relationship with the London-based organisation that promotes mechanical engineering. Since the Institution was founded in 1847, IMechEs past Presidents have included many illustrious mechanical engineers including the first president George Stephenson, the famous railway engineer.
Andrew Collinson, Country Sales Director (GPS), hosted the event which included a presentation and a tour of Alstoms Research and Development facilities where a new innovative Scanning Electron Microscope has recently been installed.
Alstom plays an active role in the IMechE and has 13 employees who are Fellows of the Institution, 72 Members, 20 Associate Members and 24 Affiliate Members. Alstoms members also participate in the Rugby Area Committee, Fossil Plant Committee, Power Industry Board and are mentors for the Monitored Professional Development Scheme. Alstom runs a Company Based Registration scheme for employees to become Incorporated or Chartered Engineers.
John Wood also met with graduates and apprentices. Alstom currently have their fourth year and post apprentice scheme employees applying for Engineering Technician Membership with the IMechE.
