Senior Executives Outline Strategy for Addressing the Global Energy Challenge
Houston, Texas - Alstom, a global leader in the supply of equipment and services for power generation, today announced the details of its participation in CERA Week 2011, a leading industry conference for power industry officials, being held this year in Houston, Texas, from March 7-11. Alstom Power President, Philippe Joubert, and several other company officials are representing Alstom, one of the main sponsors of the event. During a presentation to the CERA Week audience on Friday, March 11, Joubert will stress the importance of decarbonising power as part of a panel titled The $30 Trillion Balancing Act: Investing Long Term in a "Now" World of Uncertainty, which will explore the challenges of making substantial investments needed to maintain the worlds power infrastructure system during a time of policy and economic uncertainty.
Joubert will reiterate that the global energy demand forecasted for 2035 poses great challenges for the energy industry. He will address that markets will and should make the determination as to which solutions are most suitable, after appropriate policies are implemented, to necessarily change the current energy landscape to meet future energy demand and growth.
Other Alstom speakers at CERA Week include:
- Joan MacNaughton, Senior Vice President, Power & Environmental Policy, exploring the utilization of gas in power generation and related policies during the Global Gas Plenary: The Role of Natural Gas in a Low Carbon World.
- Denis Cochet, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, addressing the importance of balancing the power generation portfolio by significantly increasing the share of renewable technologies, namely hydro, wind, solar and geothermal power.
- Laurent Demortier, Senior Vice President, Power Automation & Controls, discussing Alstom Powers partnership with Microsoft and how collaboration between the two companies will combine leading-edge technologies to power the next generation of innovation in power plant solutions, thus perfecting the operational flexibility of a power plant through automation & control systems and software applications.
- Loic Douillet, Vice President, Market Intelligence, participating in the European Power: Economic Recovery, New Mandates, and Other Challenges breakfast covering the key EU market drivers and reflecting on how these challenges will shape industry structure, choice of fuels and technologies, and rate of change in the EU power landscape.
Throughout the event, each of the Alstom Power officials are emphasizing the importance of broad clean power technology solutions which are the foundation of Alstoms Clean Power Today!TM strategy. They also are reiterating Alstoms commitment to provide a wide range of solutions to address the climate change challenge, namely the need for an increased share of renewable power, maximizing energy production efficiency and flexibility, and the application of carbon capture and storage to both the installed base and future plants.
