Alstom delivers XTrapolis train sets ahead of schedule

The Victorian Transport Minister, Terry Mulder MP, launched Alstom Transports latest XTrapolis train set onto the Metro network today, two months ahead of schedule.

The XTrapolis trains are the safest, most reliable, and best performing in Metros fleet according to monthly performance data explained Chris Raine, President of Alstom in Australia.

Alstom is very excited to be part of the rolling stock renewal program in Melbourne. The more XTrapolis trains that run on the network, the better the network runs.

Alstom has specifically designed the new XTrapolis trains for the Melbourne network. The trains are improving service reliability to commuters throughout peak times.

The XTrapolis trains host a number of new technological features which include computer-controlled traction, braking and safety system. Each train also has fully integrated CCTV passenger information systems.

The new train has six carriages and will carry up to 1430 passengers at a time. Alstom Transport will deliver another 18 trains for service on Melbournes Metro network throughout 2011 and 2012.

The XTrapolis trains, which are being manufactured in Ballarat, form part of Alstoms localisation strategy.

We are determined to help expand the Melbourne rail fleet and Alstom has invested in developing local skills and supporting local suppliers to get the job done.Nearly 150 Victorians are helping to make our XTrapolis trains a vital part of Melbournes rail network, said Mr Raine.
