Leading engineering company, Alstom, has commended its class of 2010 UK engineering graduates, following their successful completion of the Companys intensive two year graduate development programme, at an official awards ceremony.

The 13 graduate trainees took to the stage to present complex engineering projects to senior management from Alstom including the Companys UK Country President, Steve Burgin at a formal event held at The National Space Center in Leicester.

Working in two separate teams, the engineers delivered presentations and key learnings to a 50 strong audience, detailing their technical and analytical training so far. They presented their recommendations on technical aspects of developing turbine blades for gas turbines in power stations and the design and development of a training rig for apprentices, supervisors and engineers working on steam and gas turbines for power generation industries.

On completing the highly regarded two-year graduate programme, Alstoms trainees have taken the first steps towards achieving professional chartered engineer status. Through personal and professional learning and development, having undertaken various placements spanning three to six months each across different aspects of the Company, they will now go on to enjoy permanent employment at Alstom, the large majority of which will be within engineer roles.

Headquartered in Paris, Alstom is a world leading engineering group for power generation, rail transport infrastructure and electricity transmission technologies. The Company employs around 6500 people across the UK, more than 5000 of which are based throughout the Midlands region operating out of sites in Stafford, Rugby, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Derby.

Commenting on the continuing success of the Graduate Development Programme, Steve Burgin, Country President for Alstom UK said:

Much of Alstoms success is achieved through our focus on a highly skilled and experienced workforce and in continually seeking to invest in the learning and development of our people.

Our, young recruits represent the next generation of experts, and our graduate development programme serves to develop their technical and managerial skills and competencies to provide each of them with a strong foundation on which to progress their careers with Alstom.
