On 3 November, the first automated underground train went into service on Line 1 of the Paris metro. Fully automated i.e. driverless metro trainsets will be rolled out gradually: by the end of 2011, there will be 16 such trainsets in operation, and the line will become fully automated during 2012.

In 2005, RATP and Alstom Transport signed a contract as part of this project for the delivery of 49 rubber-tired MP05 metro trainsets.

The MP05 offers excellent reliability and security, and draws on Alstom’s latest technology advances to optimise energy consumption.

These trains also enhance passenger comfort and service quality. They feature a special easy-boarding facility, low noise levels, and a new traveller information system and CCTV cameras, together with a redesigned interior and a refrigerated ventilation system.
