Alstom has been awarded a contract worth approximately 40 million by Ministry of Power, Rivers State Government of Nigeria to supply a 160 MW GT13E2 gas turbine for the second phase of the Afam power plant to be built in Port Harcourt. Alstom is already supplying one GT13E2 turbine to the project under a contract that was awarded in 2010. The Afam power plant with the two Alstom gas turbines will boost the River State power supply by 300 MW in 2013.

Alstom has been involved in increasing the generating capacity in Nigeria for many years. With this contract, Alstom will have supplied seven GT13E2 gas turbines in Nigeria including the 480 MW Okpai and the 640 MW Afam VI power plants. These projects cumulatively add approximately 1400 MW in gas turbine based power plant capacity, representing more than 20% of the total installed generation capacity in Nigeria.

Mark Coxon, Senior Vice President of Alstoms Gas Business commenting on this contract said, Alstom is proud to be partnering with the Rivers State Government to build a highly reliable and efficient power plant in Nigeria and supporting the State in adding much needed generation capacity to fuel the countrys economic growth.

With this contract, 145 GT13E2 gas turbines have been installed/sold worldwide and the fleet has acquired 7.3 million operating hours.
