Alstom UK apprentice crowned BOC Apprentice Welder of the Year

Between 17-18 October, Alstom UK Apprentice Richard Keatman battled it out against nine of his peers in the UK Final of the BOC Apprentice Welding Competition, where he was awarded 1st place.

In July of this year, Richard won the English Finals of the same competition, which took place at the Stafford Welding Facility.  This success guaranteed him a place in the UK final, which this year took place at The Welding Institute in Cambridge.

During the evening ceremony, Richard was awarded a brand new MIG/MAG welding machine for his winning position and an MMA inverter.

Running alongside the National Finals, a Welding Careers Awareness Day took place at the same venue, where Alstom exhibited alongside key industry players such as Doosan, ECITB and BAE Systems.  Over 180 students from local schools and colleges came to visit the stands and learn more about engineering as a profession and the routes they can take to begin careers in the industry.
