The Pembroke combined cycle power plant project in South Wales has been awarded the highest of all occupational health and safety awards, a Sword of Honour, from the British Safety Council (BSC), thanks to a firm commitment by Alstom, customer RWE npower and all contractors on site.

The Sword of Honour is the most prestigious award of its kind and is only awarded to companies with the very best EHS practices. In August, the Pembroke team's dedication to workplace safety was rewarded with 'Five Star' audit results from the BSC, the first step to being honoured with a sword.

In order to qualify, Pembroke had to demonstrate, amongst other criteria, that over the course of the year there was a strong adherence to the Alstom EHS Management System and that the company takes a proactive role in ensuring the highest standards in EHS.

Representatives from the project will attend a special luncheon being held for Sword of Honour winners at Goldsmiths' Hall in the City of London on 25 November.
