Alstom Grid wins contract in China for worlds highest rated current furnace transformer

Alstom Grid, the global expert in electrical grid performance, has been awarded a contract with Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Group Co., Ltd., the largest salt chemical company in China, to deliver 16 of its new, 65 MVA Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) transformers to the Qinghai Salt Lake Metal Magnesium Integration Project (Geermu City) and the Qinghai Salt Lake Haina Chemical Company PVC Project (Xining City), both located in north-west of China.

Developed and manufactured locally by SEC ALSTOM Transformers Co., the 65 MVA transformer has the greatest current rating (155 kA) of any Electric Arc Furnace transformer to have been installed in the world to date. Designed to meet the high-intensity energy needs of industries using furnace processes, various innovative solutions have been implemented in order to meet the complex specification requirements. Conceived for maximum reliability, it will provide the customer with a stable and secure supply that is essential for maintaining this specific kind of production.

We are proud to have been selected by Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Group Co., Ltd., declared Ferrucio Dianin, China Regional Vice-President for Alstom Grid. Completion of these Phase One industrial projects will consolidate Alstom Grids leading position in the large capacity furnace transformer market, essential to metallurgy applications around the world.

The project is forecasted to be completed in June 2012.
